Why or how was LP classed as a christian band for awhile?

Yeah, but then you can say to a lot of bands that they are christian or do christian rock. If you compare LP to P.O.D. then you see that P.O.D. is really christian rock, it's a big difference. I never would say that LP do christian rock. I think that whole thing with putting bands in categories is stupid. I don't care what kinda music they do I care about how it sounds, so it doesn't really matter to me.

It's because they didnt cuss or talk about suicide, etc
which at the time in their genre was rare.

Firstly, I never heard of that o.o
Secondly, that's retarded.

Well, Linkin Park is definitely not Christian, but I could see how peopel would think they are. First, of all, obviously, they didn't cuss on Hybrid Theory. When questioned about this, Mike said that they [the band] believed that swearing is a lazy way to express emotions. And Chester has said since then that he prefers to not swear in his own music, but has no problem doing it in other people's music (I think that had something to do with covering Wish in Rock Am Ring 2004 in Germany....)
Another reason people think that Linkin Park is Christian is because their lyrics heal. They do talk about very real emotions. Very real situations. But they dont' sugar coat it. It's almost arrogant, in a way, because they just put it out there, without mercy at all. It has almost the same sort of effect as a religion. Because in religion (mine, at least) the whole idea is that God is bigger than your pain. Smell what I'm cooking?
Yeah.

Just to add another point... Phoenix's previous band (The Snax) were a Christian band. Add that fact to LP not cursing on Hybrid Theory and you've got yourself a rumor.

i know its not true, but i was just asking y people though they where.
Ya reckon they'll have swearin in there new album?
twilightcrimson7
04-09-2006, 12:38 PM
I reckon maybe. They said they were changin' it up a bit, right? They were exploring and trying new things, and that this album was going to be different? Well I suppose that could entail swearing. I mean there was cussin' in TRT

Id seriously dislike it if they cursed, that was a main reason I didnt get Jay-Z Colab. I really respect how they put they're work together with just AMAZING metophors (spelt wrong) and they way the put it together musically also and the real life things they talk about
twilightcrimson7

Well I agree with them before, cursing is a lousy way to convey emotions, but I don't think they need to avoid it if they don't want to. I mean, I'm cool with it either way. My parents definatly like it non-swearing.

I also believe the rumour started when some sort of christian magazine praised them or something for their use of lyrics which are usualy unsuitable in the genre of rock/metal/nu-metal

Yes, good point.
And it's not like they were doing it to be Christian, so that's kind of silly.

This is a thread that was posted back when this first started happening, here..
http://www.linkinparkforums.com/showthread.php?t=580&highlight=christian+rock+band
The thread contains an article about the whole idea of LP being Christian rock, but I think Allied's post from the thread sums it up best when he says that God does not have the monopoly over good feelings and postive music and whatnot. I totally agree.

the rising tied was mikes rap hip hop roots thing, and obviously hes gonna have swearing in it, a rap/hip hop song without swearing? =P
i dont get the whole "christian rock" thing to be honest, didnt the church use to condemn rock music as the devils music?
Linkin Park dont go out to put religious thoughts into their music, its people with nothing better to do that analyse every connotation to every word in the song.
well connotate this : bull and shit
"christian rap" rofl
we can all see "christian nu-metal" or "christian techno" xP coming cant we?

That's pretty hypocritical, seeing as he swears alot with Fort Minor.

Linkin Park excels at presenting the questions-questions we all can use to share the Answer with our friends.

Hey I'm a Christian, but fuck . . . ;) Even I know that swearing is simply words, not blasphemy. There is a difference, and soooooooo many church people are just not bright enough to see it.
